Pals
Pals’ historic ensemble comprises a castle, village and walls. Its castle was first documented in 889. Following damage during the Catalan civil war, the king permitted its stones to be reused for Saint Peter’s church and the walls; the circular tower survived. Redactionele duiding
Editorial interpretation: The relationship between a surviving tower and reused building stone offers a way to read the ensemble through change. Distinguishing the castle’s first documentation from municipal independence also separates two different historical milestones.
Aanbeveling
Read the historic centre through the surviving tower, village streets and reused masonry discussed in the municipal history. Check current visitor information before planning entry to individual buildings; the historical account does not establish current access.
